FAQ’s during COVID-19: Eyecare

Can I buy contacts/glasses if my prescription is expired?

Our doctor is looking at patients on a case by case basis and offering extensions for up to a year where it makes sense. Since we are still open for curbside pickup we can provide temporary diagnostic contact lenses until May if you want to order something at your next appointment. If you are kept home we are also offering FREE SHIPPING by waiving the requirement for a year supply. That means that any quantity down to a 3 month supply has zero shipping costs.

Can I still order glasses at this time?

Yes, if you really need glasses, you have the option to pick a frame through our virtual try-on. We can even extend prescriptions when necessary and appropriate; the doctor will review these on a case by case basis.

We have a new budget line perfect for that backup pair you always planned on having and need more now that you are spending so much time at home; including frame, lens, and a hard coat the total cost is just $99 for single vision or $199 for multifocal. We can use your insurance benefit toward the glasses of your choice. AND you can take advantage of our warranty program which has been extended for those who have purchased eyewear in the last year (ask for details at 815-676-4474).

Should I still be wearing contact lenses given the official advice to not touch my eyes, nose, and mouth?

Yes, stressing good hygiene is a must as it always has been.

Daily disposable contact lenses have long been the safest way to wear contact lenses and we will continue to provide that as our first choice for patients. However, wearing any properly prescribed lenses as directed with good hand washing before and after handling your contact lenses is key to staying safe during this pandemic. As always, it is good practice to discontinue contact lens wear if you are ever feeling sick.

The CDC and AOA have each reached the above conclusions separately and posted this information on their websites:
